Meeting Notes

At our December 20 meeting we discussed developing a TAB mission statement. We read some examples of other Teen group's mission statements. Members suggested that the following be included: encourage reading and library usage, advise on material selection, promote volunteering, and create fun-filled programs for children and families.

We discussed upcoming TAB sponsored programs. On Tuesday, 2/12 from 4:30 to 5:15 we will be holding a Valentine's Day Jewelry Craft. If anyone is interested in helping out, please let Mrs. Reinhart know. Our annual readers' theatre presentation of Tim O'Toole and the Wee Folk will be held on Wednesday, 3/12 from 4:30 to 5:15. In April we will be holding a "Camp Out" that will involve younger children listening to stories, eating s'mores, singing, etc.

We decided that during our January meeting we will play Disney Scene It or a similar game and have cake for Julia's birthday which falls on the meeting date-1/17.

Future teen program ideas include: Guitar Hero competition, DDR, Smash Bros, cake decorating, movie marathon, sushi fest, carnival day, Cinco de Mayo party, origami and henna.

Next year the library will be receiving a $1,000 donation for YA books and would like suggestions from TAB members as to what to purchase. Some TAB members would like to meet at Barnes and Noble to investigate titles.

Our next TAB meeting will be held on 1/17 at 7-8.

Meeting Notes - November 15

Most of our meeting was devoted to decorating a gingerbread house for the children's room at the library. It looks great!

We did briefly discuss our two blogs--this informational one and our online book review one. We also discussed the March program--Tim O'Toole and the Wee Folk that we'll be holding on March 12, 4:30 to 5:15. It is a readers theatre and craft program for young children.

The interior library renovation will likely be starting within the next few months and, as you all probably know, will include a new Teen Zone.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, December 20, 7:00 to 8:00.

I need more input on programs. So far it looks like a lot of people want the Camp Out and Disney Scene It Night. A few people want Readers Theatre. I need to know now whether you want to do the annual Tim O'Toole Readers Theatre.

I know how strongly you all feel about having bright colors in the new Teen Zone, but the Library Board has decided to go ahead with the original colors. Sorry.

We are developing a Mission Statements. Some TAB members will research other Teen groups statements to aid us in developing our own.

The proposed Teen Zone renovation was discussed. Everyone expressed concern about the proposed decor and there was unanimous agreement that bright colors would be best.

No one was ready to have their pictures taken for new READ posters so we put that off until our next meeting.

September 18 Meeting Notes

Thank you to all who attended our 9/18 meeting and to those who attended the Library Board meeting on 9/20.

We set meeting dates through December. They are as follows: October 4, November 15 and December 20. The time is the same, 7-8.

The nominated officers for the upcoming school year are: Julia (President), Nitisha (VP), Secretary 1 & 2 (Sara & Nicole), Public Relations Coordinator (Tahia), Program Coordinator (Jaki). If anyone would like to run for something, please let me know before our next meeting.

Also discussed was the creation of an online book review blog, potential future programs and the creation of new READ posters.

The potential library renovation and creation of a new TEEN ZONE was discussed. Everyone was in agreement that they were in favor of bright or pastel colors. Some concern was displayed about the inclusion of a tv in the area.

Four TAB members attended the Thursday night Library Board meeting to view a presentation about the proposed area. They were quite vocal regarding the proposed wall color (brown), carpet, and tv. They liked the floor plan and the furniture but did suggest some lounge type chairs.

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 4 at 7-8.

Friday, September 7, 2007

Our next TAB meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 7-8.
